When Paul Chabot, former drug czar advisor in the Clinton and Bush administrations, was asked by a reporter today why we keep marijuana illegal, Chabot responded: “Why do we keep heroin, LSD, prostitution, child pornography illegal?”
Well, I’ll get to that in a second. First of all, I really hate the use of the word “czar” to indicate the top official in an ad hoc program. Just call the guy “Director of the anti-drugs department” and be done with it. The actual czars were a pretty mixed bag, some of them were visionaries and builders of cities, some of them were horribly cruel, and some of them were nuttier than fruitcakes. Sort of like the history of kings in any country which had kings, which was most of them, back in the day.
This Chabot guy was an advisor to the drug czar, which would make him Rasputin, except that the czar isn’t really a Czar, and his advisors are just a bunch of slimy, weaselly, narc cops. So, I suppose it’s unfair of me to expect rational thought from them.
We are what we are.
So, let me give his question the serious answer I’m sure he believes it deserves, even though it doesn’t. Why do we keep heroin, LSD, prostitution and child pornography illegal? (btw, that’s 4 questions, not one question.) I actually disagree that heroin should be illegal, because I don’t think the government has any right to tell consenting adults they can’t do heroin, even though it’s messed up and seriously dangerous. I think LSD should be legal and even encouraged. This is wonderful stuff. It brought me as close as I ever got to the true purpose official hippie excuse for doing drugs, which is, of course, to expand your mind. I don’t think LSD actually did expand my mind, just warped it in some interesting ways temporarily, but it certainly didn’t hurt me, or the vast majority of other people who’ve taken it. There are certainly pro and con sides to the legalization of prostitution but personally, I’m all for it. I can’t even see the moral objection.
Also, like with marijuana, they are trying to enforce laws against something that has existed since the dawn of man and, in the process, doing a lot more harm than good.
So, the reason these 3 things are kept illegal is because shitheads like you, Paul Chabot, keep them illegal, mostly because you are puritanical prudes with a pickle (metaphorical) up your butt, but probably also because you are corrupt as fuck.
The reason child pornography is still illegal is because it’s child pornography. Everybody’s pretty much in agreement on that one. Zero points, Paul Chabot.
