Well, there’ve been a few articles recently with regard to the ongoing sex scandal within the Catholic Church, and by ongoing I mean ongoing for the last 2,000 years or so. There was the story about the old priest who finally got nailed for telling a young boy that a friendly little blowjob would help his dead grandfather get into heaven, because now the man’s an adult and he decided to talk about it, mounting evidence that Cardinal Timothy Dolan, who maybe thought he was going to be Pope except he was too involved with all the covering up of all the sodomy, was at least manipulating church finances so they could duck paying compensation, and, to balance those first two, a Cardinal on the Island of Santo Domingo, upset that Barack Obama had appointed an openly gay man as ambassador to the overcrowded little tourist trap, referred to the incoming ambassador as a faggot.
There are two things going on here. On the one hand, the pedophilia and the covering up of the pedophilia continue. On the other hand, the church continues to condemn homosexuality. Sure, pedophilia and homosexuality are not the same thing, they just seem to be objecting to the wrong one.
I have a theory. The whole social acceptance of homosexuality, which has spread across the world like a rainbow blanket, is bad news for the Catholic Church. If homosexuals no longer feel the need to hide their orientation, it means that young, homosexual men don’t need to seek out the priesthood as a profession which will mask their sexual desires. There goes a lot of their recruitment incentive.
So, the Catholic Church desperately wants to keep the world bigoted against gays. Without that, they will begin to unravel.
