Duck!

I’ve never seen this Duck Dynasty program, but I think I’ve got a rough idea.

And, having given the matter all due deliberation possible with a near complete absence of facts, my opinion is this: You can’t give  somebody  a reality show and then not expect them to be real.

Phil Robertson - Firmly of the opinion that a vagina is better than an asshole because, c'mon, dudes

Phil Robertson – Firmly of the opinion that a vagina is better than an asshole because, c’mon, dudes

Seriously, did you expect this old white guy rockin’ the  ZZ Top look, while living in a region even other Southerners look down on, stumbling through the swamp every day and shootin’ off his guns,  to say something pro-gay?

So, total free speech applies, he’s not a politician or anybody whose opinion anybody has to pay attention to, and I don’t think the show should be canceled. On the other hand, all the boycotts and stuff goes with the game.

Another show that they’ve been advertising the hell out of for a month on Discovery Science that I have no intention of watching, ever, is Rocket City Rednecks, just because the trailer and the theme song are so fucking annoying.  Here they are, supposedly a group of rocket scientists in Huntsville, Alabama, and yet they’re all shooting their guns off and yee-hawing it up, living in trailers, saying Paw when they mean Dad,  huntin’ ‘coons,  and putting engines on  shopping carts and shit, like nobody’s ever watched Junkyard Challenge before, or Jackass for that matter.

The thing is, if these same 4 guys were to put on a show where they talked about actual rocket science, and dropped out the  guns and all the other over-the-top Southern stereotype nonsense, and spoke in the accents they use at work every day,  it might be a show I’d like to watch.

Of course, the fact that  I’m not watching does not mean it won’t be a success.  There are more of them than there are of us.  There are always  more of them than there are of us.
