Black Friday is over and the Christmas season is officially underway. If you are looking for a way to get a nice, original and personal gift for somebody special, I have a suggestion, which has nothing everything to do with shamelessly promoting my own products. But it would make a cool gift.
I refer, of course, to buying one of my books of poetry. Now, I know everybody out there hates poetry, but some people might actually like receiving it as a gift – women, for instance, if you’re a guy who’s trying to impress a girl with what a sensitive kind of guy you are, or older women, like your mother. Girls, you could even give one of these books to your special guys, because guys don’t really care what you give them as long as you give them something. We’re like dogs, that way. Lots of other ways, too, but I digress.
Now, just any old book of poetry would be a pretty lame gift. There is one thing that makes these books special, and one thing you can do to actually customize the choice and make it look like you’ve actually thought about the gift, which is what you want it to look like.
They are special because they are the work of a little known poet on the cusp of fame (I’ve been saying that for years, maybe some day it will actually be true). And the way you customize them is this: go up to the top of this page and click on the button that says “my poetry books.” That will take you to the books and those that are already ready already have two choices listed: “read this book,” and “buy this book.” You start with “read this book.” You find some poem which speaks directly to the person you are trying to impress, which should not be hard as there is quite a range of subjects. Everything from life in Prague to space exploration. There are poems about animals and spring and rainbows and children, and a handful that should probably not be seen by children.
Then, when you have found one you really like, buy that book and highlight the poem with a yellow marker or maybe make a bookmark with hearts on it or something and say “this poem made me think of you” and then it will be “your poem,” which, even if you hate poetry as a general rule is sort of a cool thing to have.
Check it out. You might be surprised.
