It’s Only a Light Bulb, Steve

In a speech at the big conservative’s convention going on in D.C. now, teabagger congressman Steve King of Iowa, from the district once represented by Gopher from The Love Boat, delivered a piece of oratory which may someday be remembered as the most perfect example of wingnut

Ol' Crazy Eyes

drivel ever drivelled.

Now, remember, Steve King is the guy who was really, really proud of how he’d killed a raccoon in his  kitchen, with a really, really big gun.  He’s also the congressman who spoke out in support of the crazy dude who crashed his private plane into the local IRS office, killing one employee (and himself).  Steve King is a really, really creepy guy.

In his speech, he spoke out against Michele Obama’s effort to reduce calories in school meals, saying the kids would just reach out for a chocolate bar.  He also complained about shower heads and toilets, because it’s just his god given right to use as much water as he wants, but his true ire was reserved for those new-fangled light bulbs.

King referred to the House office building janitors during Pelosi’s time as speaker as her Stasi troops, because they changed his light bulbs.

“I would screw them out and send the interns out to get me some of those good Edison lightbulbs,” he said, the crowd cheering. “And those interns would come back sometimes empty-handed in tears, because they couldn’t come up with a regular Edison light-bulb.”

Now, I don’t want to get bogged down in the pros and cons  of curly vs. pear shaped light bulbs, high volume or minimal volume of flush in the toilet, or small or large bore shower heads.  That’s not my point.

My point is that with all the problems in the world, all the unemployment and home foreclosures in America, tensions with North Korea, Iran, Syria, Israel and plenty of other places, global warming, overpopulation, the national debt and all of that going on, Steven King (the congressman -the author Stephen King is pretty cool) is being really incredibly petty.

And a bit of a dim bulb.
