IOKIYAR

There is an acronym frequently used in current political debate: iokiyar.  It is used, like most acronyms, to quickly write something which is the end explanation of many things.  Why David Vitter kept his seat even after it was revealed h,  e slept with prostitutes and he never really managed to disprove the rumor that he paid them to change his shitty diapers, why Larry Craig wasn’t forced to resign after trying to pay for gay sex in the Minneapolis Airport men’s room, why Terry Sanford is  in Congress,  with his hot little Argentinian floozy by his side, instead of in jail for misappropriation of state funds.  Iokiyar.  It’s O.K. if you’re a Republican.

It’s the reason Republicans totally freak out over Ben Ghazi but never said a word about the dozens of embassy attacks and scores of deaths during the Bush administration.

It’s true.  It exists.  There is a double standard.

Many Democrats look at this double standard and say, hey, not fair.  If Sanford can get into congress, when he can’t even get into his ex-wife’s home because of a restraining order, why shouldn’t we vote for Anthony Weiner and Eliot Spitzer?

I think he needs to be in politics because that's the only way he knows to get laid

All Weiner did was post pictures of his weiner to a girl over the internet.  Not even illegal.  I can’t  see why he resigned over that.  Sure, it was kind of a lapse of judgment (I mean, would that even work with a woman?  If you aren’t close enough to her that she’s already seen your weiner, do you think she’ll be comfortable with you sending her a picture of it?  I guess times have changed since I was dating, but that definitely would have been considered a faux pas.), but what the heck, dude – gut it out.

And all Eliot Spitzer did was have sex with hookers…probably with state money…while he was making a lot of noise about cracking down on prostitution – that’s the part that pisses me off.

So, I don’t agree with those who say we should forgive Democrat’s transgressions because the Republicans forgive their own.  Two reasons:

1.  We don’t want to start being Republicans.  In the end, let them be the party of the ignorant voters, the party of the short attention span, the party with the completely corrupt people at the top, embarrassing themselves again and again.

2. We don’t have to.  There are plenty of other qualified candidates who are not Weiner and Spitzer.  Other Democrats, running against them in primaries.  Vote for one of them.
