Wendy Davis, the only U.S. politician in recent memory to actually pull a real, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington style filibuster and make it work (even if only temporarily), the heroine of Texas liberals and women everywhere, is going to run for governor, according to lots of reports.
This is even more awesome than just going from a male governor to a female governor, going from a conservative governor to a liberal governor, going from a nearly retarded governor who forgets major elements of his policy in the middle of a nationally televized speech and thinks prayer is an adequate response to wildfires to somebody who is reasonably intelligent.
A) It’s Texas. The only state with more electoral votes is California. If Texas turns blue, and a Democratic governor would be a strong indicator that it’s turning blue, then the Republicans will never win another national election. Oh, they won’t disappear. People don’t change their minds easily, especially Republican people. But, the party has swung so far to the ridiculous that they will have to disband and reform under a different name. That works. Lots of former communists are still involved in governments in former Warsaw Pact countries, they just don’t call themselves communists.
But, it will take them time and in the meanwhile, a lot of good can be accomplished. If the Democrats are smart (which is a bit of a stretch, I admit) they will invest heavily in Davis’ campaign, plus every congressional race, state congressional race, and mayoral race in the state of Texas until it turns as blue as a 6 year old holding their breath.
B) She’s got the bug, and the timing is right. After a few terms as governor, she may well become America’s first female president.
Hillary will run but will not win. As a campaigner, she sucks. She’s smart, knowledgeable about politics, experienced, and did a fair job as Secretary of State even though she didn’t keep the job very long, but she lost the nomination in 2008 and she’ll lose it again in 2016. There are probably at least 7 or 8 Democrats who want that job , it will be a hard fought primary season, and Hillary Clinton does not win the hard fought elections. That’s the story of her life.
So, after 8 years of President Tim Kane or President Sherrod Brown, Wendy Davis will make her move in 2024. I’m predicting it now.
