Privatizing Ryan

O.K., I pretty much agree with every other liberal American that Paul Ryan is a totally evil person,  “a zombie eyed granny starver” as Esquire described him, and I tremble to imagine a future where he is in power.  Fortunately, I also agree with most liberals that he has about as much chance of being elected vice-president as Nancy Pelosi has of being elected Miss America.

Get back in your coffin, Grandpa. No Medicare for you!

Unfortunately, while I am 100% sure of my first sentence, I have some niggling little doubts about the second.  Sure, anybody who is not a multi-millionaire would have to be a total idiot to vote Republican this year, but there’s no shortage of idiots in the good old  U.S. of A.

Romney/Ryan still have a huge financial advantage (billionaires love ’em to death) and will flood the airwaves with waves of negative, and mostly untrue, ads between now and November.  The teabagger base is fired up.  And a lot of random shit can happen in 3 1/2 months.

I’ll wait to see the next polls.  If the Republicans get any bump at all out of this, I will be nervous.  If Florida turns blue, we’ve got it in the bag.  But, I think the most likely scenario is that there will be little change, no more than 2 or 3 percentage points anywhere.  That’s because there are two types of voter.  Those that have had their minds made up for at least the last year or so, and those who will make up their minds around Hallowe’en some time.

In that case, I don’t know if the weird similarity in appearance between Paul Ryan and Eddie Munster will play to their advantage or ours.  I’m sure that a certain percentage of Americans (who are among the ones who will make up their minds in the last two weeks of the campaign)  might think a vampire vice president would be sort of cool.
