Back Home

We got back at about 11:30 last night and we are spent.  Our money is spent, our bodies are spent and our nerves are spent.  When I say our, I refer to me and my wife.  The kids are fresh as daisies and running around the flat like monkeys on benzedrine.

Tropical Islands Aqua Park where Sam finally swam the width of a pool, even though the width at that point was about two strokes for an adult I was real proud of him, it’s a start,  Berlin, thinking we were going to  run out of gas on a narrow, tree lined road in northern Germany, the Baltic Shore, a surprising little town called Wismar, Isabel really loves fountains and they just happened to be having a festival for kids on the pier, losing the campsite keys and then the car keys, St. Anslet in Denmark where I tried to teach the kids how to skip stones- Sam’s got the concept and can usually make one skip once or twice, Isabel just throws rocks in the water and expects us to cheer and clap every time, which we do, Billund, Legoland which was pretty amazing, getting caught in a downpour on the way back to camp, the all you can eat in ten minutes continental breakfast buffet, the park behind the statue of liberty, driving to Sweden then sleeping on the ferry and spending a morning at Miedzyzdroje, which is sort of like a Polish Coney Island and when my wife told me she’d never heard of Coney Island I told her it was a New York version of Miedzyzdroje.  The waffles were good, I bought a cool hat, and there is a nice soft sand beach but it is really way overcrowded.

Then driving all day and into the night through Poland with the kids fighting and screaming in the back seat and it started pouring down near Jelenia Gora  just as night was falling and the road starts winding like spagetti so we were crawling along with limited visibility.  Eventually the kids fell asleep, we crossed the border, the road straightened out a bit and it even stopped raining.

It was a great vacation, but it’s good to be home.
