Rahm Emmanuel has resigned his position as White House Chief of Staff in order to run for Mayor of Chicago. Nobody is sorry to see him go. Right wingers hated him because they reflexively hated anything associated with Barack Obama. Left wingers hated him because he wasn’t very good at his job and let the right wingers walk all over him. Anyway, at his official going away speechifying, picture taking session, Barry gave Rahm a big hug.
CNBC announcer and right wing hack Larry Kudlow said this was not dignified, it showed weakness, emboldened our enemies, etc…Ronald Reagan would never have done such a thing. (He actually said that. I’m not making this up.)
Well, I suspected that this was another feet on the desk moment, so I went to Google images and found this picture of Reagan moving in for a big hug with then Mexican president Portillo.
Exceptions prove the rule, though, and I learned from Google images that Reagan was not nearly the huggy guy that Obama, or Clinton, are. However, the huggiest president, by far, was Bush Jr.
Who can forget this image of him and John McCain? Or the big smooch with the Saudi King? And there were many more.
So, it WAS a feet on the desk moment. (The baggers went nuts over a photo of Obama with his feet up on his desk, until photos were discovered -they’re on Google images, not hard to find- of several previous presidents with their feet on the very same desk.) Teleprompters, birth certificate, unprecedented use of the word unprecedented, treating foreign heads of state with normal courtesy, liking Dijon mustard and being aware of a vegetable called Arugula, knowing something about Islam, attending a church, buying a house, taking a vacation, not wearing a flag pin…and much, much more.
Really, the Obama haters are not only insane, they are probably the pettiest people in all of human history.

That last pic of Bush smooching the prince looks pretty “photoshopped”. Just because he liked stroking the Saudi Royal family doesn’t mean he made out with them. 🙂
good article, true pictures. Bush held hands, etc. with the royal Saudi (I think) family and one member was even nicknamed something like ‘Bamma Bush’ because he was so frequently with the Bush family.
So, a photo too far, perhaps?
