probably shouldn´t be relying on them as a source of news, but I read this and thought ¨Well, duh.¨
I see it as part of the definition. Liberals believe that we are all in the same boat. Conservatives believe that it´s every man for themselves. There is some poetic justification for the conservative view. In the end, each person is, to some extent, the author of the novel of their own life. Everybody gets to play the hand they were dealt. You come into this world alone and you go out alone.
However, it´s a harsh and ugly view of life, and with the planet as crowded as it is, totally unworkable. Conservatism taken to its logical conclusion (Libertarianism) would be a planetary cage fight, where everybody tries to kill everybody else until there is only one person left standing. The conservative vision for the future is the dark version of Bedford Falls that Jimmy Stewart saw in “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
I’m not saying that all conservatives are evil (although the current crop of American conservative leaders most definitely are), they are just not people people. Anyone who says “you can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs” or “acceptable civilian casualties” or “torture isn’t really that bad” is somebody who really doesn’t like other people very much.
They might make wonderful engineers, auto mechanics or farmers. They should probably not be teachers, doctors, salesmen or stand up comics. They should most definitely never, ever be Senators, Governors or Presidents. Because when liberals say “we can make the world a better place for all human beings” the natural reaction of a conservative is to think, “Why would I want to do that?”

So true, and the difference is evident from the smallest family unit to the largest countries. Why don’t conservatives like all other humans ? Perhaps because they really don’t even like themselves, as they know their real self. Perhaps because they have been indoctrinated to believe that they are ‘chosen’ and therefore, ‘better’ than all others. Perhaps because they are ‘more successful’ and ‘able’ and just dont’ want to be burdened with those who are less capable, even their own family members. Sad….since the beginning of time….Cain and Abel, etc….
