9/11 Still an Inside Job

The problem with watching American TV in Europe is that, in addition to not getting a lot of shows that the cool kids are talking about,  we are a couple of years behind in the programs we do get.  I’m watching episodes of House with Kutner in them, and they only killed off Amber a couple of episodes ago.  It’s because we only get the cable program for people who don’t want to spend any money, and you get what you pay for.

So the episode of “Rescue Me” I watched today might well be a couple of years old, but my point will still be relevant, when I

get to it.  This show is growing on me a bit.  I still prefer Denis Leary doing stand up, where he can make jokes about being an asshole and it’s funny.  On “Rescue Me” he plays a firefighter who’s a recovering alcoholic, and quite a serious asshole.  It’s not funny.  It’s also not at all a stretch as an actor for Leary, but hey, actors don’t need to stretch any more.  They find a niche and they stick to it.

Anyway, in today’s episode, the firefighters got into a big fight over 9/11 because one of them has become a truther.  “I’ve read a lot about it,” he says.  “I could tell you things you don’t know.”  The 9/11 widow just says she doesn’t want to know.  The other firemen are split between “eh, whattya bringin’ up this crazy shit again?” and  “shut up or we’ll beat the hell out of you.”

I actually thought it was quite realistic, a reasonable synopsis of the nationwide debate.

Those of us who believe it was an inside job point to videos of WTC 7, available on youtube but which have almost never been seen on network TV.  We point out that it had a very different structure to the twin towers and yet, despite not having been hit by a plane, collapsed straight down, just like they did.  We point to the fact that Marvin Bush was in charge of security for the World Trade Center and that the building had been shutdown for the weekend several times in the preceding months.    We point to Larry Silverstein, the buildings owner, getting a 5 billion dollar insurance settlement, pretty much without a fight, and we point to Silverstein saying, on TV, “as to building 7, we’d already decided to pull it.”  He walked back his comments the next day, quibbling over the definition of the verb “to pull,” but it was really clear what he said.

They say “I can’t believe our own government would do that.”  Why is that hard to believe?   The fake Gulf of Tonkin incident, the attack on the U.S.S. Liberty, the Kennedy assassination, the sinking of the Maine…governments pull crap like this all the time.

They say “I’m tired of hearing about it.”  9 years ago, they were saying “Never forget.”

They say “You’re crazy!” but we know that we’re not.

9/11 was, quite clearly, an inside job.

I know… I’m one of the “crazies” too. There have been times when I have been absolutely obsessed, and even my husband, who agrees with me for the most part, is like “Oh, that again… (sigh)”.
