Child Prostitution and More

For all the brouhaha surrounding Wikileaks, surprisingly few of the documents have been revealed as of yet.  Judging from the public’s reaction so far, it might be just as well.  As Jack Nicholson said in “A Few Good Men” (which I thought was a hideously overrated movie, btw) “You can’t handle the truth!”

Torture still going on in Iraq and Afghanistan?  Whatever.  Karzai and his buddies stealing money hand over fist?  No surprise there.  Pass the mashed potatoes, please.  American diplomats haven’t got a clue?  Well, what did you expect.

In the midst of all the nonsense, however (and the blast of white noise that is the Julian Assange “rape” charge) there have been a couple of important revelations.

The Saudi Government hates the Iranian government almost worse than the U.S. government does, which is in pretty stark contrast to what they’ve said publicly.

The Chinese government probably wouldn’t be too bothered if South Korea were to walk in and take over North Korea.  That’s just based on what U.S. diplomats said, though, and hasn’t been confirmed (or denied) by China.

DynCorp, an evil military corporation similar to Blackwater or Halliburton, which gets 96% of its income from the U.S

Your Tax Dollars at Work (picture is of Bangkok, but you get the idea)

. government, had parties for their recruits into the Afghan police force, where underage boys were dressed like girls.  Slutty girls.  Who danced for them.  And could be taken off to a private room.  For sex.  Really, it makes Michael Steele’s night out at the lesbian bondage club seem rather tame.

To me, though, the biggest one is this:  Shell’s vice president Ann Pickard admitted to a former US envoy to Nigeria that its employees had infiltrated the Nigerian government to the point that they were able to keep  tabs on all governmental policies and deliberations.

The Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth Nigeria (ERA/FoEN) said the revelation has shown that rather than operate as a company, the oil-giant had become “a pseudo-political organization bent on taking political power and undermining our national interest, national security and our sovereignty.”

In other words, Shell Oil has taken over Nigeria.  They are not just a company doing business there which has a few friendly politicians in their pocket.  They own the fucking place.

  1. Well, we’ve long known that governments were in thrall to the major multinationals, and that ultimately those who hold the money hold the power. This, however, is a giant step further, and serves to illustrate just how insidious these corporations are. We really are all doomed.
