Prediction: Obama Will Win 2nd Term

First, there’s no doubt he will run for it.  Being President is like being an NFL Quarterback or a member of the Rolling Stones.  It’s just such an awesome position of privilege and power and prestige and probably a few other words beginning with P, that nobody gives it up willingly.

Second, the chance that he’ll get a serious challenge from the left is minimal.  LBJ had a war.  He was massively unpopular among anti-war Democrats.  He was a baby killer.  He was evil.  Many of us are disappointed in Obama, we think he’s weak, we think he’s overly cozy with Wall St., but he doesn’t come anywhere near Johnson in sparking rage among Democrats.

Third,  since Obama will be the Democratic nominee, liberals will rally around him because, really, we DON’T have anywhere else to go and we’ve been supporting the lesser of two evil for the last 65 years years or so.  There’s no reason to believe that this year will be any different.  It’s sad, it shouldn’t be that way, but it’s true.

The main reason the big O is assured of a 2nd term, however, is that no matter who the Republican nominee is, it will be somebody who is really offensive and who nobody would trust in a million years.  At least nobody with a 3 digit IQ.  The reason for that is that that’s all they’ve got.

Of course, there’s Romney, who is probably the most electable, and therefore the scariest of the bunch, but he’s not going to get the nomination.  Christian fundies hate him for being a Mormon and teabaggers hate him because he was for health care before he was against it.

Boss Hogg, who, unsurprisingly, makes me think of Haley Barbour

Which leaves us with Sarah Palin, mother of America’s most dysfunctional family; visibly insane person Michele Bachmann; Herman Cain, who will stay in the race a long time, propped up by the RNC so they can claim they aren’t racists, but too many Republican bigwigs are still smarting from the whole Michael Steele regime thingie;  Mike “the earth is 6,000 years old” Huckabee, who should never have messed with Natalie Portman; Haley “Boss Hogg” Barbour; Tim “bridge collapse” Pawlenty; ferret faced Rudy Giuliani and Newt Gingrich, who both have some ex-wives who could, and very likely might, cause trouble; Rick “Santorum” Santorum; Bobby Jindal, who would leave the U.S. defenseless against volcanoes; proven failure and serial flip-flopper John McCain; and some other guy who was governor of Louisiana once, but it must have been a long damned time ago, because nobody really remembers Buddy Roehmer.

In short, the Republicans have a wide selection of loudmouths, ignoramuses, hypocrites and generally obnoxious individuals.  Any of them could win the Republican nomination, but any of them will quickly be shown to be out of their league when they do.

So, Barry will win.  Again.  Whether he deserves it or not.

Also, Obama is one heckuva campaigner and fund-raiser. When he gets that enthusiasm train running again next year, that will be a force that’s tough to beat.

  2. I think it’s going to be a little bit difficult to get that enthusiasm train started again, seeing as now we know him and he’s really not that great. But he will win.
Personally, I’d like to see somebody like Kucinich or Feingold take him on in the primaries, but it’s not going to happen.
