Robert Watson is something special, even among Republicans. He took a good shot at a world record in offending as many different people as possible in a single sentence when he said that the state legislature had its priorities right “if you are a Guatemalan gay man who likes to gamble and smokes marijuana.”
Well, last night Robert Watson, who is the leader of the Republican party in the Rhode Island state legislature, got arrested. For pot. Also for drunk driving, but they’ll probably let that slide. He couldn’t walk a straight line but he said he’d only had two or three drinks and, amazingly, he beat the breathalyzer. Two or three drinks is apparently O.K., if you’re in Rhode Island and you’re a state legislator.
But they’re nailing his buns to the wall over the reefer. I’m torn. On the one hand, marijuana should be legal. In my opinion, it should even be encouraged. So, I’m sad to see anybody busted over marijuana.
Then, I take another look at that “if you’re a Guatemalan gay man who likes to gamble and smokes marijuana.” Well, now we know he smokes marijuana. We can even discern a gambler’s personality in Mr. Watson (no relation to me, by the way). See, Rhode Island has medical marijuana and Watson told police he smoked marijuana for a medical reason, but he never registered, so it wasn’t exactly prescribed, and then he said that was just because he wanted to keep his marijuana use private. That’s a gambler.
Now, we turn to the gay question. Seeing as how he is a Republican, we know it is within the realm of possibility.
He’s probably not a Guatemalan, though. He just threw that in for the alliteration.
Watson said he is not going to resign.

Hopefully he’s pro-legalisation, or maybe he’ll turn that way real fast now that he’s got arrested for it. I hadn’t heard of this guy before, but that sure sounds like a pot smoker name to me.
