Now, let me say, right off the bat, that I’ve been to the South and met with nothing but hospitality. I know many nice people from the South – nice, intelligent people.

But, Jesus H. Christ in a cotton field, get this: 52% of Mississippi Republicans think President Obama is a Muslim. 36% said they weren’t sure. That’s 88% of Mississippi’s dominant political party who are flat out refusing to acknowledge a given fact.
Obama says he’s a Christian, that’s the only standard anybody is ever held to, there’s an end on it.
The results across the line in Alabama were similar. 45% said, Oh, yeah, he’s a Muslim all right, and 41% were keeping an open mind on the subject. So only 86% of Alabama Republicans have managed to completely blot out the months of rage they spent on the Reverend Wright, and how Obama sat in his church for 20 years!
Mississippi once again saved them from being the stupidest state in the union.
I know there are some who say that northern liberals like myself should not be casting aspersions on the South. They say we shouldn’t laugh at them and call them slack jawed goobers and cousin humping country bumpkins (try saying that 3 times fast), because it doesn’t lead to positive political discourse.
But, come on. Can we really be expected to take the South seriously, as a region, when we keep hearing stuff like this? Get with the program, South, or expect us to continue with the redneck jokes.

Quite simply: fuck ’em. These are the same ignorant, cousin-humping idiots that hung blacks simply because they looked at a white woman, if they did, in fact, look at a white woman – as if that was some sort of crime. Again, I say fuck ’em. If there was anything close to a bug among humans, deserving to be squashed underfoot, it would be southerners. Nothing but an embarrassment to the species, and an exercise of a nuclear weapon begging to happen.

OMG. Just watched the Bill Maher clip. Usually you see something like that and you think, well, they’ve done some selective editing, like with Jaywalking. But then there are those poll results.
People with that degree of disconnectedness in their thinking are over 80% of Republicans in Alabama and Mississippi. It’s a scary thought.
