Chinless Mitch McConnell, the Kentucky turtle whose actual job it is to make sure nothing gets through the U.S. Senate which might actually benefit the American people because that would make President Obama look good, says that marijuana will kill you.

In a letter to a voter who had written to him in support of legalizing medical marijuana, because it has numerous well documented health benefits, he wrote:
Because of the harm that substances like marijuana and other narcotics pose to our society, I have concerns about this legislation. The detrimental effects of drugs have been well documented: short-term memory loss, loss of core motor functions, heightened risk of lung disease, and even death.
Now, it’s very sneaky of him to say “and other narcotics” and, in the 2nd sentence, to just flat out start talking about other drugs altogether, but the subject was marijuana. Nobody has ever been killed by smoking marijuana. Ever.
Of course, I can imagine scenarios. If you happened to be picking up a little bit of weekend off the books work in these troubled economic times offloading trucks chez your local pot dealer, and a half ton bale of primo Colombian fell right smack dab on the top of your non-union, unhelmetted head, it might kill you. If you baste your joint with generous slatherings of extract-of-heroin, I suppose it could conceivably do you some harm.
But study after study has proven that marijuana, as long as you’re smoking less than 6 or 7 joints a day, is not only harmless, it is generally mildly benevolent (although I’ll grant the short-term memory loss part is true.)
So, either moaning Mitch is massively misinformed or he’s just flat out lying. My guess is on the latter. It’s just what they do.
