A Modest Proposal

It’s obvious we are at an  impasse.  It is obvious that the Romney/Ryan Rand Reading Reagan Revering Ridiculous Right wants to cut funding for everything good, and we loonie libs just want big government handouts all the time, so  there is not even enough common ground for a back and forth.  We are shouting across a chasm.

We need new ideas.  In that spirit and in a rare spirit of compromise, I decided to try and see things from their point of view and, voila!, an epiphany, a Satori, a lightbulb with a dollar bill sign on it suddenly lit up over my head.  No, nobody saw it and there’s no video, but it happened, trust me.

If the way to reduce the deficit is to reduce taxes on the rich, aka job creators, so that they can create more jobs, but it hasn’t actually worked that way over the last 10 years, and the stupid libs keep saying “see, it doesn’t work, we told you, dumbasses, but you wouldn’t listen, nooooooo,” maybe the problem isn’t that it doesn’t work, maybe the job creators just didn’t get enough money.

I’m not saying we should give them bigger tax cuts.  That’s thinking small.  I’m talking about giving them bonuses.  If you have 100 million dollars, the government gives you a billion, so you can create jobs to your heart’s content.  Or build a dungeon and stock it with rare art and wine, your choice.  If you are one of those truly great entrepreneurs who have amassed a billion dollars or more, the government should bestow upon you a cool trillion.

Boy, then we’d see the jobs popping up all over like crazy.

Some people, of course, might raise silly objections like “Where is all the money going to come from?” and “That would be somewhat inflationary.”  But I think these arguments can be overcome by simple logic, and a discerning use of statistics, if they are even raised.

After all, the money is going to those who can create jobs, so that the money will trickle down.  It is not going to the poor, who would only spend it on food, and rent.

You can do better than that… What’s the point?

Sorry, was drinking again. Look, the left / right powerdime are just two us / them labels that serve to divide us and distort the truth. It can be subtle or it can be sledgehammer, but it’s always divisive and moves us further from agreement and into just name calling. I’m just tired of everyone being ‘against’ something and not ‘for’ it. No one believes in the ‘trickle-down’ – no one. Poor dumb people vote for rich dumb people ’cause they want to identify with that crowd. It’s that simple and it sells. People vote liberal as an easy way to appease their conscience. That sells too.

    • I agree that we should go beyond left/right rich/poor liberal/conservative but come November, that’s pretty much the choice we’ve got, Obama or Romney.
I’m hoping that technology, (computers, robots, space exploration, medical advancements, cheap energy) will save us all, if we can just prevent our politicians from destroying the planet and all life on it for long enough.
If we sit this election out, we may not get another chance.
