In Defense of Republicans

The Republican party has come under a lot of fire today because they’ve released the names of the House Committee Chairmen (as the majority party in the House, they pick ’em) and, to a man, they are men.  Also, they are as universally white as a Klan convention.

Not the best and the brightest, just the oldest and the whitest.

I don’t think we should be surprised, and I don’t think there’s anything to it, really.  That’s who they  had to pick from.  Allen West lost his seat, and Michael Steele was never a congressman at all, so I don’t think the Republicans actually have any blacks who could’ve been appointed, even if they’d wanted to.  There are probably a few people on the Republican side with Hispanic surnames they could have called upon to break the bloc, to serve as tokens, but that would have been pandering.

Likewise with the lack of ladies.  Misguided though I think they might be, there is such a thing as Republican women.  Just not very many of them, none with much seniority, and it would have been as token as making Sarah Palin McCain’s  running mate to counter Hillary Clinton or making the aforementioned Michael Steele party chairman to counter the blackness of Barack Hussein Obama.

So, they decided to go the non-pandering route this year and went with their true colors…or, in this case, color, and you have to respect them for that.  At least it’s honest.

What I find infinitely  more disturbing is that all of them, being Republicans, are pro-ignorance, anti-science, anti-sex, anti-environment and pro-war.  They want to take the country back to the 1920s economically, and back to the 1620s in  every other  sense.

It wouldn’t make  it any better if they had women and minorities to do their  dirty work for them.
