Consistency

My internet friend Grace, who frequently posts beautiful and interesting stuff, put this out there yesterday, and, in addition to just being a nice photo, it got me thinking.

After the first glance, which made me want to dive into the potatoes, I noticed that the photo was from 1935.  The young lady in the photo, therefore, if she is still alive, is in her late 90s, at the very least.  I shouldn’t be thinking about her like that.Potatoe Girl

Still,  the image is forever.

There are two things this photo said to me.   Although so much has changed between then and now, like the Holocaust and WWII and the atom bomb and desegregation and communism and Hippies and rock ‘n roll and television and marijuana and the moon landing and rap and the internet and porn, that the world is a different place.

But, no matter the pace of progress, there are still areas of consistency in our existence, things which remain true forever, and we can focus on them and it restores our sense of perspective.

A pretty girl is still a pretty girl, and potatoes are still potatoes.
