Bummer in Boston

It’s 10:45 p.m. in Prague and I’m just getting the news about the Boston Marathon.  As it stands at this moment, 2 dead  and whole bunches injured, including burns and lost limbs.  It’s too early to speculate at this point on who did it or why or whether they’ll be caught.  I’d just like to say:

Hey, stupid bombers!  What kind of a stupid place is that to put a bomb?  What’s your point?  That you hate marathons? What the hell is wrong with you?  Who hates marathons?

If you had planted the bomb at the Capitol or the White House* I would understand, you are either right wing fanatics or left wing fanatics, or at any rate somebody with a serious beef against the government.  If the bomb had been placed at a Monsanto office or laboratory, or on the trading floor at Wall St.** then you might have been striking a blow against the entrenched moneyed interests, or at least trying to raise awareness of corporate greed and environmental indifference.

But a marathon?  People who run marathons are not what’s wrong with society, they are what’s right with society.  Marathoners didn’t start any wars.  Marathoners didn’t kill social security.  Marathoners aren’t to blame for global warming, gender inequality, or horse meat at IKEA.

If your point was just to blow shit up because you are some kind of fucked up vandal psychopaths, there are plenty of vacant lots and plenty of garbage cans just begging to be blown to smithereens.

In short, you are pathetic morons (or perhaps just one pathetic moron.  One lonely, pathetic moron) and I hope you get caught and rot in jail forever.

As to what actions should be taken, I think we should look to the experience of 9/11 and do exactly the opposite:  We should remain calm.  We should tend to the injured and assist the families of the injured.  We should wait for the police to complete their investigation.  And we should continue to have marathons as if nothing ever happened.

Because marathons are cool.  Bombers suck.
