Sad Sanford

The South is the South, and you don’t get much more southern than South Carolina.  Democrats don’t win in the South, as a general rule.  Republicans can pay prostitutes to change their dirty diapers and they continue to get elected, because they are Republicans and this is the South.

Southern Love

Southern Love

That is why it is so significant that, according to Politico, the National Republican Congressional Committee isn’t giving South Carolina Senate candidate Mark Sanford any money.  It’s a surprising decision, because this is an off year election, it’s not like they have a bunch of other races they need to focus on.  So, by pulling the funds, they are basically admitting that he hasn’t got a chance.  This is surprising, because all Mark Sanford did was cheat on his wife…and go AWOL  from his governor’s job for a couple of weeks, and maybe partially pay for his Latina Lovequest with taxpayer money.

But that’s not all.  Now, he’s being charged with trespassing, but it sounds more like stalking to me, creeping around his wife’s house (which I guess was his former house, too) in the middle of the night.  He says he just went over to watch football with his son while Jenny was out of town.  Maybe, but when you are running for the U.S. Senate, it doesn’t look good that you have restraining orders against you.

But the part I don’t get is this: his relationship with Maria Belen Chapur seems to be solid.  They are engaged.  She appears by his worthless side at press conferences, smiling sweetly, just like Jenny used to do.  How does she feel about him skulking around outside his wife’s house all the time?

A politician can cheat on his wife and get away with it.  Maybe they can even leave the wife and stay with the girlfriend and get away with it.  But leaving the wife, getting engaged to the girlfriend, and then still trying to get back with the wife, indicates serious problems with his decision making capabilities.

Hello, Senator Busch-Colbert.

So, you’re a twelve year-old girl. Cool. I’ll take your political commentary really seriously from now on. This is fascinating and definitely impacts my life in a ??? way. Absolutely. Got it. Thanks.
