Watched a couple of things today that Netflix has been pushing. Neither thing was bad, so I’m not complaining.
I was a bit hesitant to watch Enola, because the whole Sherlock Holmes thing has been done to death. There have probably been as many Sherlock Holmes movies and TV series as there have been Star Treks, and that’s a hell of a lot. But, I’ll watch anything with Helena Bonham Carter in it, and I was a bit curious to see how Millie Bobby Brown is developing as an adult (well, close) actress. It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t great, either. If all it takes is a bit of action, a bit of a predictable romance, and a bit of beautiful English countryside, then you’ll enjoy it.
Then we watched Cobra Kai. Well, I watched Cobra Kai and Helena worked on a 1500 piece jigsaw puzzle because she’s kind of determined not to watch anything I’m interested in. It would be better if I’d been a huge fan of Karate Kid or extremely nostalgic about the 80s, but the theme of high school losers vs. the snooty, bullying in crowd is eternal, and it’s an interesting twist that the roles are completely reversed from in the first film. I didn’t think it was great, but I’d watched three episodes before I knew it, and I’m probably going to watch it to the end, so there’s that.
