I had a fairly productive morning this morning. Brought the fan up from the basement because it is now hot enough to need it, took out the garbage and recycling, went to the store, and got started on my next book.
That means, basically, collecting all the poems that are scattered here and there on their files, creating a new file, and fiddling a bit so that each poem gets its own page except for the really short ones, and the really long ones go over a page, but I thought I had a lot more of them than I did, and I reckon I’m about 15-20 pages short of respectable book length (which is shorter than novel length, but not as much shorter as most poets make it) In other words, 6 or 7 good, long poems, 15-20 medium poems, 30-40 short poems or, what is almost inevitable, some combination of the three.
It’s a stage I wind up at with all of my books, where I thought I had enough and one I’d laid them all out, end to end, they failed to reach from the Earth to the moon. Still, I hope to finish it by the end of June, but will certainly finish it by the end of the summer, along with a couple of other projects which are at a much less advanced stage – like I’ve got a vague idea in my head and that’s about it.
And that’s about it for my blog tonight.
