On to the Next

Well, there’s no doubt about it, we did way worse than expected. I’m not sure if it was all the endorsements, the unquestioning MSM, the low turnout of the youth, or the closures of many polling places, but it was a tough loss.
But it ain’t over. We’ve got to get back up and get in this thing. Next week is Idaho, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota and Washington.
We’re down but not out. We will always bounce back.
For anybody who might be reading this in any of those states who might be reading this, please consider: Biden is a horrible candidate on three levels.
Policy, Character, and his disintegrating brain.
Caitlin Johnstone did an excellent piece on Biden’s fading mental capacity today. It’s true. It might not be nice, or polite of us to criticize an old man for being senile. One friend of mine said we were being ‘ablist’ but, really, I don’t want somebody who can’t remember what year it is, what office he’s running for, or what state he’s in having that much power at his ready disposal. So, I’m going to be posting a lot of videos over the next week. The Corn Pop speech, the why why why why why why why outburst, the record player speech, oh my God, the record player speech, the declaration of independence flub, and many more. I suggest everybody do the same. Real ones. Accurate ones. Let’s play fair. But it’s a topic that should not be avoided.
Character. The whole thing about impeaching Trump was because Trump was digging for dirt on Biden, and it was completely unnecessary. It’s common knowledge that Hunter Biden got a cushy job with a Ukrainian oil company just because his daddy was vice-president, and it’s also known that when a Ukrainian prosecutor started investigating this corruption, Joe Biden used the influence of his office to get that prosecutor fired. It’s not wrong for Sanders supporters to bring this up. You can be certain that Trump will.
I’d love to just fight this out on policy. Biden is opposed to Medicare for All, he is not opposed to fracking, he supported the Iraq War, he helped get Clarence Thomas on the Supreme Court and is very nearly a Republican in his views. So, I will be posting, more frequently than before, articles showing the ways in which he differs from Sanders, and in which he does not differ from Trump that much at all.
Because Biden is not the pragmatic candidate. Biden is a pre-emptive surrender.

Why I’m Optimistic

Of course we’ll have a lot clearer picture of the state of the race tomorrow but, barring a serious upset, I think I’m going to be going forward fairly optimistically. Here’s why:
If Bernie wins big, like 10 states, then he’s regained the momentum, racked up a lot of delegates, and it’s nearly a done deal. If it’s closer to an even split, then we’ll have a harder row to hoe, but there are still almost two thirds of the delegates up for grabs after Super Tuesday and the fact that the DNC is putting all of their eggs in the Biden basket actually helps Bernie a lot.
Because Biden is such an incredibly soft target.
We can, of course, rerun old YouTube videos every day, of Biden screaming into a reporter’s face “Why why why why why why why?”, and the one calling that guy fat and that one where he thought he was running for the Senate and, of course, the whole corn pop speech which reminds me in some ways of the last words of Dutch Schultz. (google last words of Dutch Schultz – it’s actually an amazing piece of accidental literature)
But, we don’t need to. There will no doubt be a steady parade of instances of Biden saying inappropriate, offensive things, insulting his audiences, slurring his speech, mangling his lines, and sometimes actually going into a time loop thing. Every day that Joe Biden lives and breathes is a day he will likely say something stupid.
Others may choose to attack him on his record. Lord knows, there’s plenty of material there.
Or some may choose to attack him on his persistent habit of fondling young girls.
We can hit him with all of it, and it’s legitimate because it’s true.

The Thinning of the Herd

Wow! What a day and color me surprised. For a long time I have been making the statement that any Democrat with any delegates at all would stay in up until the convention, but last night Buttigieg dropped out and today it was Klobuchar, and both of them closely followed Tom Steyer.
A lot of people are saying this is a plot on behalf of the DNC to help Biden, and maybe it is, but I doubt it will work.
The idea is that with Pete and Amy out of the race, Biden will get over 15% of the popular vote in California, which will prevent Bernie from walking away with all of California’s delegates and a huge leg up toward the nomination. Maybe. But, even though it’s Super Tuesday, and much has been made that 1/3 of the delegates will be awarded that day (and maybe 1/10th or so have been allocated so far) which means there will be plenty of opportunities for Bernie to pick up delegates post Super Tuesday.
With Steyer, Buttigieg and Klobuchar out of the race, there are 5 candidates remaining, and the only one who stands a chance against Trump is Bernie.
Let’s take them one by one.

Joe Biden. Seriously, the man is senile. He has mistaken Ohio for Michigan, New Hampshire for Vermont, the 60s for the 70s, and himself for a Senate candidate. He yells at voters and calls them names, even when they’ve given no offense. The debates between him and Trump would be absolutely cringe-worthy, and Trump would win them.
Michael Bloomberg. There is something extremely offensive about a billionaire trying to buy the presidency, but that’s what he’s doing. If, by some fluke, he were to get the nomination, it would be a race between two right wing, authoritarian, racist, sexist Republicans. This would not be a pragmatic move by the DNC. This would be a pre-emptive surrender.
Elizabeth Warren. She’s got a handful of delegates, is not likely to get many more, and may lose her home state of Massachusetts to Bernie Sanders tomorrow. She has no credibility left after taking Super Pac support, and very few good reasons for voting for her. All along, her thing has been “I’m almost the same as Bernie but more electable” and that is just not true. On either count.
Tulsi Gabbard. Yes, she’s still in the race although they’ve managed to keep her out of the debates. But, she polls at around 1% so, much as I like her -on some issues even more than Bernie – she is not a viable candidate. I’d love it if she’d drop out and support Bernie, but it doesn’t really matter. She’s not a factor.
Bernie Sanders. An intelligent, compassionate man with great policies and no serious minuses.
Yes, the drop out ploy may put Biden over 15% in California, but he’s not likely to win more than 2 or 3 states tomorrow (he’s almost certainly going to win Alabama, but that’s the only one he can count on for sure).
But, for the rest of the race (unless I’m underestimating Bloomberg’s support) it will essentially be Biden v. Bernie. And Bernie is the only one playing with a full deck.
Buttigieg and Klobuchar dropping out have actually increased the odds of Bernie getting 1,991 committed delegates before the convention. We welcome their supporters into Camp Bernie. It’s the only sensible camp left.

A Broken Convention

I was reading an article this morning, I think it was CNN.com, about the possibility of a brokered convention, but in the first paragraph in the article the author used the term ‘broken convention.’ Now, I’m not sure if that was a typo, a Freudian slip, or the author had heard lots of people talking about a brokered convention and just misheard it, sort of like a mondegreen.
But then it switched to brokered convention in the second paragraph.
It’s funny, though, because a brokered convention will be a sure sign of a broken party. It’s the clash between small money donors and big corporations, powerless average people vs. powerful, entrenched politicians, little guys vs. big guys, and nobody knows how it’s going to come out.
One thing is certain. Elizabeth Warren won’t be the nominee. If it actually goes to a brokered convention, the establishment wing of the party hates her almost as much as they hate Bernie, albeit with far less justification. And there’s no way she’s going to get the delegates to win outright. She’s barely on the chart at all now, and she’s not going to win Massachusetts.
So, if she were any kind of progressive at all, she would drop out now and support Bernie.
But, she’s not. She’s perfectly willing to go to a broken convention (I imagine she sees herself as Joe Biden’s running mate.
So, I’m talking to her voters. Now is the time. If Bernie does not get an outright majority (which you can help us get) then the nominee will be chosen by the party hacks. Guaranteed it will be someone beholden to corporate interests, somebody who will play ball. Very likely someone who will lose in the general election.
So, come on over. If you liked Warren ‘because of her policies’ you’re going to love Bernie Sanders.

Joe Biden has Alzheimers

Today, speaking to a crowd in South Carolina, Joe Biden said “I’ll appoint the first African-American woman to the Senate.” There are two main problems with that statement. There have been female African-American Senators before, and Kamala Harris is serving currently. (Biden once previously made a similar comment, and Harris called him out on it). More importantly, what the hell is he even talking about. The president does not appoint Senators. They are elected, by the citizens of their state. On those rare occasions where an appointment needs to be made (death or imprisonment), it’s made by that state’s governor. Joe Biden knows this. Or he should. Probably did, once upon a time.
A couple of days ago he asked for people to vote for him for the United States Senate, and then said “If you don’t vote for me, vote for the other Biden,” which makes no sense at all. So, the first part might be indicative of Alzheimers, his mind harking back to previous Senate campaigns, and a high school gymnasium in South Carolina looks very similar, I’m sure, to a high school gym in Delaware, and neither has changed their look significantly in the last 40 years.
The second part is just plain old brain turning to mush.
Seriously, how bad does it have to get before he exits the race?
