A Wee Suggestion for Mark Zuckerberg

One thing I find frustrating on Facebook is when you want to leave and do  something else, you get that little box saying, ‘You have not finished, if you  leave now your work will  not be saved’ or words to that effect and the reason I find it frustrating is that there’s no way  of knowing which of my comments I failed to complete.  Of course I  can scroll back through, and sometimes I do, but it takes forever and, often as not, I cannot find the dangler.  Other times, when I do, I think, dang, I wasted 10 minutes trying to find this and all I said was …..

I’ll usually go ahead and hit send and get on with the day, but I wish, instead, they would give you that little rectangle and instead it said “You have not completed your comment on Joe Blow’s post” or “You have not completed the status update you started” or “Happy Bir is not even a full sentence, you moron.”  You know, something that would give you a clue.
I’m sure  Zuckerberg and co. have the programming smarts to do  that, but they seem to spend all their time figuring out what to censor and what not.

That’s about it, short blog for the night, it was a pretty  good day but I’m done.  Talk to you tomorrow.

Bye Bye, Mario

I just unfriended somebody (a guy named Mario, obvs) and, as usual when I unfriend somebody, I feel pretty good about it.  In  real life, it’s not  that easy.
It was, as it often is, a political argument.  I very seldom unfriend anybody just because they have offensive politics.

I’m not saying never.  I unfriended, at the time of the New York primary, a person who I actually know in real  life (although I haven’t seen him for  over 30 years), because he’s such an Israel  first nutcase, and he was just furious that Bernie Sanders would actually consider the Palestinian point of view.  I felt a bit bad over that one, but it did mean not reading his obnoxious posts any more.
More often, it’s a combination of political disagreements and just plain obnoxiousness – as in this case.  His original post was something about Nathan Rothschild and the New World Order, which puts him  into wacky conspiracy theory and anti-Semitic territory, but I wouldn’t have unfriended him just over that.  The conflict came further down in the thread.  One young lady  accused him of being a Trump troll (which, having read many of his posts, is not an entirely unfounded accusation) and he answered back with (I’m paraphrasing) ‘Neener-neener, you’re the troll.’
I pointed out that that was not a good argument.
Then, he said something along the lines of ‘Yeah, you’ve got a funny face and wear glasses.’ (Actually, the young lady in  question has a perfectly normal, reasonably attractive face, and there’s nothing all  the weird about glasses, so, just gaslighting)  I said that was rather rude.

Then, and I guess this was directed at both her and me, he said ‘Well, if you don’t like it keep on scrolling, this is my wall and I don’t want any arguments,’ which is kind of an absurd thing to say when you’re making inflammatory political posts.  So, that’s what I said.
He said I should unfriend  him if I didn’t like it.  So, I did.
When you say you don’t want any arguments you are, in effect, admitting that you lost the argument, is the way I see it.

The Delusion of the Democrats

Al Franken is going to give a speech  about his political future tomorrow, and a lot of people are saying that he will resign.  It would not surprise me too much.  He is a Democrat, and very often Democrats collapse under pressure.  Also, he’s a bit different than most Democratic politicians, in that it’s not his first, or even his second career.  His books were great books, regardless of what you think about him as a politician and, no matter what happens politically (unless he gets elected president some day, which is super unlikely), he will always be remembered, primarily, as that guy from Saturday Night Live.
I hope, however, that he doesn’t.  Not because I  like  Al Franken.  I still resent his role in the screwing of Bernie  Sanders, and I hope he gets primaried by a Berniecrat next time he runs.  But, I don’t want to see him go down like this.

The most recent, the 8th, allegation against him is from a woman who claims that Franken put his arm around her waist while they were posing together for a photo.  And, horror of horrors, squeezed.  Most of the other allegations are not much more serious.  And, it  seems likely that a couple of them are completely bogus.

The logic of the people  asking him to resign (which, I’m sorry to say, includes  Bernie Sanders.  I love the guy, I  will happily support him again if he runs in 2020, but we’re at odds on this issue) is “he may not be guilty, but he should resign anyway.”
What manner of fresh bullshit  is this?
It is assumption of guilt instead of presumption of innocence.  It’s framing an innocent man for convenience.  It’s a totally cowardly move.
I’ve heard phrases like “moral high ground” and how this affects the Roy Moore campaign.  Which is also ridiculous.  Do the Democrats actually think if they turn on Al Franken, that Alabama Republicans will suddenly say “well, fair’s fair, I guess we should vot against Roy Moore.”  This is delusional thinking.   Republicans don’t think like that.   In fact, pretty much nobody in the world thinks like that.
I saw one person write that Franken should  resign because if  Moore is elected and the Senate wants to vote not to seat him, the Democrats would  have no chance if Franken is still there.  Piffle.  The Democrats would  have no chance of  that in the first place.  There is almost no legal precedent for  it, Moore has  not been convicted of a crime (yet, anyway), the Republicans have  the votes to seat him,  and the Democrats don’t have the balls to stop them.

Attacking one of their own is not  going to help them to suddenly grow those  balls.  Quite the  opposite, actually.

Tuesday, Tuesday

Watching a show now  about paranormal investigators and, I must say, even though I want to believe, because ghosts would be evidence of a life after death, a life beyond this life, a spirit world, it’s probably  all nonsense.  At any rate, these programs don’t prove anything.  They offer up a story, and look all credulous, and expect to carry the viewers along for the ride, which is certainly one business plan, I guess.
Watched an interesting film this afternoon, and I  think whoever wrote the film had the treatment of topic exactly right.  It was a black comedy, but based on a true story, so they did it documentary  style, which made it much more effective.  ‘Bernie,’ it was called, with Jack Black (nice to see him in a movie that’s not intended for  total  morons) as Bertie, a well-loved man in his community, always volunteering for church projects and such, killed an old woman, maybe for her money but maybe not, that was the  question,  but  as much  as people in  the town loved Bernie, that’s  how  much they hated the nasty old woman (Shirley Maclaine, perhaps the most awesome actress ever), and so most of the townspeople thought  he should  get  off  on  the old “Bitch had it comin'” defense.  Won’t tell  you how  it ends,  but it IS a true story.

I watched too much TV today.

I spent too  much  time on Facebook today.

I probably  smoked too much pot today.

Annd that’s about all I have to say.
