Well, the New York primary has been moved to June 23rd, which seems sensible, and they wanted to combine it with another election, so it should all be cool, right?
Problem is, the Democrats either had a strange rule, or made one up at the last minute, wouldn’t surprise me, after they shifted the debate requirements around so many times to make sure Tulsi was kept out but Bloomberg was allowed in. The rule is that any state which has their primary too late (which probably means ‘after June 22nd) gets their number of delegates cut in half. Since New York is a really big state, that severely handicaps the candidate who is behind and advantages the candidate who is ahead.
To use a sports analogy. It’s the 3rd quarter and Team A is leading by 9 points. Suddenly, the league rules change so that a touchdown is only worth 3 points and a field goal one.
I don’t know if it was deliberate or not. I don’t know if Cuomo was in on it or not. But I’m dead certain that if Bernie was ahead at this point, they would not even be thinking about invoking this rule.

Last Man Standing
In cage fighting, paint ball and all of these Desert Island survivor shows, the winner is the last man standing. (I’m not 100% sure of that, never having watched cage fighting except in films, and never having actually played paint ball) It’s the rule in lots of sports. Sumo Wrestling, Limbo dancing, Dodge Ball. If everybody else is knocked out of the competition, then the one who is left is the winner.
It’s a logical rule, and a way to end things clearly and decisively. And that’s where we are in the Democratic primary. Biden had a couple of weeks of strutting around the ring, a little bit punch drunk, but with his refusal to debate, all of the sexual allegations, and (most important of all, imo) his clearly declining mental state, has been rendered unviable. It’s a TKO, at the very least.
Bernie is the last man standing. Now, we know that the DNC (in this metaphor, they would be the refs) hate him, and we know that the big money, cigar smoking, heavy betting gangsters who run these events (in this metaphor, that would be the corporations and the main stream media) hate him, but a lot of people in the crowd are crazy about him, he has taken punches from all the other competitors, and had the refs cheating against him from the beginning, but he has fought clean throughout and is still standing, not a mark on him.
Hand him the damn trophy, already.

Terms of Debate
Plenty of people have objected to me constantly posting about Joe Biden’s obvious senility. “You’re damaging the Democratic candidate,” they say. “He’s the nominee, you have to get behind him,” they say. Neither of these things are true.
Ditto the last couple of days, when I bring up the Tara Reade accusation, that when she was a staffer for Biden he threw her up against a wall in the literal corridors of power and finger banged her, or any of the previous accusations of impropriety, or any of the videos where he’s being overly affectionate with underage girls, they say “Stop criticizing him, do you want Trump to win?” which is obviously a nonsensical argument.
The primary process is not over, we still have a choice between two people, and it is perfectly legitimate for those of us who object to Biden and support Bernie to be bringing up every negative thing there is about Biden, so that people won’t vote for him and Bernie can be the nominee.
If you, on the other hand, want to bring up negative stuff about Bernie, you’re going to have to find some first. His voting record is great. Solid pro-labor, solid pro-women, solid pro-environment, solid pro civil rights. He’s not senile, like Biden, he’s sharp as a tack. And there’s never been an accusation of sexual assault against him, credible or otherwise. And no corruption. Yeah, that’s hard to believe in Washington, D.C., but there it is.
If you think we should be all about positivity, well, I’m willing to debate you on those terms as well.
You should try saying something good about Biden. I’ll wait.

The Women’s Vote
I just saw a woman, an actual woman on my Facebook feed, defending Joe Biden by saying “Well, the Tara Reade thing was in 1993, and a lot of men do sleazy stuff like that, and I’m sure Joe is learning.”
This is ridiculous. First, there is no real indication that he is learning. He still does not respect personal distance. Second, she is forgetting that Joe hasn’t exactly been a great champion of women’s rights throughout his career. He was horrible to Anita Hill, and saw to it that Clarence Thomas got confirmed for his seat on the Supreme Court. He has argued that states should have the right to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Bernie, on the other hand, has never been accused of any sexual impropriety, he was for Roe v. Wade before there was Roe v. Wade and he was named by Gloria Steinem as an ‘honorary woman,’ his record on fighting for women’s rights is that good.
Of course some women (like the one who wrote that comment) are defending Joe Biden because they think he’s already the Democratic nominee, because that’s what the MSM has been telling them.
Voters in Ohio, Georgia, Puerto Rico, Alaska, Hawaii, Louisiana, Wyoming, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Kansas, Indiana, Nebraska West Virginia, Kentucky, Oregon, the Virgin Islands, D.C., Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, and South Dakota might have a thing or two to say about that. Especially the women voters.

Luck of the Draw
I must say, I have been lucky in life. As a white, male heterosexual I was born into most of the privileged groups. Not rich, not even close, but working class in a developed country is way richer than most people in the world. Enough that I’ve managed to travel quite a bit, and am living in a city I totally love. I have a beautiful wife and two teenage children, who don’t totally hate me. There have been periods in my life when I didn’t think so but, by any objective standard, I’ve got it pretty good.
And in this time of quarantine, I am forced to live with the people I choose to live with anyway. So, super lucky.
But that’s a roll of the dice. What of the young, single person who was leading a great life with lots of different sex partners and an active social life centered around restaurants, discotheques and pubs. Suddenly it’s the law that you have to stay where you’re living and, boom, all of their girlfriends/boyfriends are living somewhere else and they’re essentially looking at a couple of months of solitary confinement. That must suck.
What about people who were having a lovely vacation in an exotic, faraway country and now can’t return home because of closed borders, limited flights, whatever, and they’re having to make the best of staying in a hotel they can’t afford in a country where they don’t know the language.
Imagine being old, or an invalid, and nobody is even allowed to come visit. I mean, most people didn’t visit anyway, but at least before you had the hope that they would.
For a whole lot of people, this quarantine is a nightmare and I (not suffering greatly at all, kind of enjoying it, really) hope it’s over soon.
In the meantime, thank goodness we’ve got the internet.
